The Strain Sensor is a fiber optic strain long gauge sensor specially designed for long term monitoring of structures using the state of the art optical FBG technology. It allows continuous structural health monitoring and keeps the critical infrastructure under constant supervision. The sensor is a fiber optic equivalent of an electrical strain gauge and can be mounted directly on any surface, or within the structure.
100% passive sensor
Since the sensor does not need the power supply, it easily monitors places without access to the power and hazardous or inaccessible areas.
Tension and compression
The sensor is pre-loaded by default enabling monitoring of tension and compression of any structure.
Universal platform
The strain sensor can also be used in combination with other sensors, such as temperature, inclination, vibration, displacement, etc.
Protected as IP68 rated devices
The protection is comparable to the international standard rating of IP68 and guarantees complete dust-tightness and protection against the effects of long periods of immersion in water.
Connectivity
The sensor can be used alone or incorporated into a large sensing network regardless of sensor interconnections.
Installation costs
Installation and cabling for optical sensor networks is much less expensive and cumbersome than comparable electronic gauge networks.
Immune to EMI/RFI
This fiber optic sensor enables operation even in harsh environments and hazardous areas. The advantage is immunity to electromagnetic/radio frequency interference.
Leverage existing fiber optic network
Standard telecommunication optical fibers, for example dark fibers, can connect the unit and sensors. This is very economical even for a large number of monitored points.
Supplied with two anchors
The Anchor Sensor is supplied with two specially designed anchors which facilitate fixing to the structure. In this way, the fiber sensor makes direct contact with the construction and therefore accurately measures the strain of the monitored object. The strain changes are measured as elongation, compression or bending of a fiber between two fixed points.
Optional accessories
The strain sensor can be supplied with additional optional accessories, such as a sensor protective cover, customized mounting anchors, connectors, etc.
